EDUCATION & PUBLIC OUTREACH

Welcome to the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada's (Toronto Centre, Canada's largest) Education and Public Outreach (EPO) page!

Wondering how EPO advances astronomy in the real world?

You've landed at the right spot.

We deliver more than 100 education and public outreach activities each year across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. Below you can find examples of some of our notable programs. And if you have any questions or comments, our EPO Chair, Aly Kamadia, is more than happy to hear from you: publiceducation@rascto.ca

Solar Observing at the Ontario Science Centre

On the first weather permitting Saturday of every month, RASC volunteers gather at the Ontario Science Centre with telescopes that allow the general public to view the sun completely safely (e.g., with special solar filters on them). If you plan to drop by, don't forget to check the go/no-go decision posted on our website.

Short Courses: New Observers to Visual Astronomy (NOVA)

Our New Observers to Visual Astronomy (NOVA) course is currently delivered in-person at select libraries. The course consists of a six-week introduction to Visual Astronomy, and is available to the general public. For information about where the course is being offered and how to sign up, please contact our EPO Chair, Aly Kamadia: publiceducation@rascto.ca

Public Viewing Nights

From Millennium Square to Bayview Village Park to Ontario Science Centre star parties, everyone is invited to look through many of our telescopes, and enjoy exciting views of objects beyond our planet. Whether observing the moon, features of nearby planets (well, 'relatively nearby'), such as the rings of Saturn, or much much more, these events are extremely popular with the public.

Community Outreach

From Seniors' communities to Scouts and Guides, EPO is here to ensure that our astronomy programs are reaching every community.

Libraries and Schools

Libraries and Schools are among the most powerful educational institutions created. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that we partner with them to provide astronomy programming to meet their needs.

All of the above programs are some of the examples that the EPO is committed to. We also entertain requests to bring an astronomer to you and more.

Should you need to contact our Chair, Aly Kamadia, he would be happy to hear from you.
