Arriving from the Spooky Outer Solar System to York University this Halloween... This coming Monday October 31st there are two, that's right TWO amazing astronomy halloween events occurring! The Allan I. Carswell Observatory Presents: Herschel and the Haunted Telescope. Whether you are a fan of music, physics, astronomy, history or even just Halloween we have somethign for everyone! 7:00-8:00pm: Lecture and Concert Event 

The lecture is followed by a fun event number two, a Halloween-themed tour of the Allan I. Carswell observatory 'Haunted Telescope' and viewing session of Uranus, discovered by Sir William Herschel in 1781.

The International Issues Discussion (IID) series at Toronto Metropolitan University is proud to present its third virtual talk of the Fall 2022 term: "Today's Leading Space Issues."

Although we are likely still decades away from discovering signs of life on worlds outside of our own solar system, much progress is being made today to identify the best potential candidates for hosting such life.

Speaker: Chris Vaughan Chris will discuss his experiences while observing the Moon: for fun, for outreach, and for completing RASC’s lunar observing programs. He’ll share observing tips and target suggestions, and highlight some of the best books, apps, and web tools for exploring the Moon from your driveway.

Take a free look through different kinds of telescopes (including solar-filtered scopes) to get close-up looks at sunspots, craters on the Moon, and planets visible in the current night sky. Peer into deep space and try your hand at spotting faint star clusters and nebulae. You can even bring your own telescope along and we'll give you expert advice on how to use it better.
