Have you ever looked through a telescope? Take a tour of the night sky through a telescope and snap a photo or two of your favourite celestial body. Learn about the phases of the Moon, get an up-close look at the planets, and gaze at the brightest stars (weather permitting).

Join us at the Ontario Science Centre for our monthly Solar Observing on the TELUSCAPE.

Visit a unique historical site in Richmond Hill and experience an engaging presentation led by expert and researchers in astronomy, covering a variety of exciting astronomy topics. After the presentation, participants will tour the observatory and see a demonstration of the 74" telescope. If the sky is clear, the dome will be opened and the telescope pointed to an interesting celestial object for the visitors to view. Please wear/bring appropriate supplies for being outdoors. All registered participants under the ages of 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

First, receive a detailed introduction to the basics of astronomy through an indoor presentation. Learn your way around the night sky in an amazing portable planetarium. Next, we’ll venture out into the darkness for naked-eye viewing of constellations, more detailed observations with binoculars (provided) and viewing planets and deep-sky objects through telescopes of amateur astronomers. Hover above the Moon like an astronaut and get eye-to-eye with the planets. Find colourful stars, star clusters, bright nebulae and even another galaxy. Our monthly City Star Party is the place to catch universe from within the city limits at Bayview Village Park. If you don't have a telescope then you will find many astronomers who would love to share a view. If you are thinking of buying a telescope, viewing with other people's equipment is the best way to make a good choice. If you have a telescope or binoculars, please bring it!

This month's event is themed after the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Taylor Kutra will be talking about contributions by women and gender minorities in astronomy.

This Earth Hour, turn out the lights and turn up the lamplight. Visit Henry House after hours and learn about life before electricity. Costumed guides are on hand this evening to shed light on an earlier time. Look for Oshawa Power in the Henry House Kitchen, talking about energy conservation and will have PUC giveaways! The Durham Region Astronomical Association (DRAA) will be star gazing in the Henry House Gardens!
