After five years at the helm, Randy Attwood has announced that he will step down as the Executive Director of The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. To celebrate Randy’s tenure, we are hosting an open house on October 26th.

The 2019 RASC General Assembly will be held in Toronto at York University from June 13–16, 2019. The theme of the General Assembly will be Education and Public Outreach. For more details, see: https://www.rasc.ca/ga2019

As the lazy days of summer fly past, planning is in full swing for our fall events. One of those events is the fall work party at the CAO. This year’s fall work party takes place a little earlier in the season on the weekend of September 13-15.

Given the poor weather forecast for Wednesday, this event has been postponed until March 13, 2019. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada - Toronto Centre, invites new members and their family who are also members, to join an orientation get together – First Light 2019.

CAO is holding a joint fundraising event for our members and members of the Beaver Valley Bruce Trail Volunteers. These are the people who tend the trail near CAO and have visited us for an astronomy night last year. As a means of fundraising, we are presenting a day on the trails followed by a night under the stars. RASC members will be offered one of two guided hikes, a short one and a long one, at a trail near to the CAO but not the “normal” Margaret Paull side trail that we frequent.

2018 marks 150 years of lasting organized astronomy in Canada, and that story is pre-eminently the story of the RASC. Join us on the afternoon of May 12th for an open house launching the official opening of our new Archives space! This invitation is extended to all RASC members and their guests. The refurbished Archives facility is a RASC sesquicentennial project, providing improved storage, display, and consultation space for the RASC’s material heritage, and a congenial location for select meetings and programming, in a setting richly evocative of our history.

This year’s Fall Work Party will take place from October 20-21, 2018. More details will be announced as we get closer to the date.
