Carr Astronomical Observatory Fall Work Party 2015

Shorter days. Longer nights. Astronomers get giddy. It also signals the E.C. Carr Astronomical Observatory (CAO) Fall Work Party on Blue Mountain is just around the corner. Please join us on October 17-18, 2015  (this is the weekend following Thanksgiving) as we prepare the facility for the winter season. There will be jobs for all skill levels both indoors and outdoors. All meals and drinks are provided to volunteers from Saturday breakfast to Sunday lunch.

Transit of Mercury at the CAO

You are invited to the transit of Mercury viewing party at the E.C. Carr Astronomical Observatory (CAO) in Blue Mountains.  This daytime event is jointly hosted by the Blue Mountains Library and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada - Toronto Centre and is open to the public. Monday, May 9, 2016.  Arrive any time after 10:00 am.

CAO 2016 Spring Work Party

UPDATE: 2016-05-26 Thanks to all the members who have volunteered for the Spring Work Party at the CAO. We are happy to report on the overwhelming offers to help from our membership and now the house is completely filled up (with overflow people camping as well), so we cannot accept any additional volunteers for this work party. Please keep an eye out for an announcement about a Star-B-Que to be held at the CAO in July, and mark your calendars for the Fall Work Party which is currently scheduled for the weekend of October 14 - 16, 2016

CAO Star-B-Que

Want to spend a day out of the city in the fresh air of the country, hiking a portion of the Bruce Trail, flying kites, launching rockets and spending time with old friends and making new ones? Then you will want to join us at the E.C. Carr Astronomical Observatory on Saturday, July 16th, 2016, a First Quarter Moon weekend, from 1pm - 8pm for our Star- B-Que! If the weather cooperates, we will do some solar and evening observing too, so bring your binoculars and telescopes if you have them.

CAO 2017 Spring Work Party

It’s that time of year again…..time to get the Carr Astronomical Observatory (CAO) ready for another season of observing for our members. This year’s Spring Work Party will take place May 27-28, 2017 - this is the weekend after the Victoria Day weekend. We do not have any major projects planned - just the normal season opening activities and many small jobs.

Open House and Awards Picnic at the E.C. Carr Astronomical Observatory

Toronto Centre members and their families are cordially invited to attend the 19th Annual Carr Astronomical Observatory (CAO) Open House and RASC Toronto Centre Awards Picnic on Saturday, June 24th, 2017. With ample shelter available in the house and observatory, this is a rain or shine event, so plan to be there. It provides a great opportunity to network and socialize with your fellow members.

The Blue Mountains Public Library: Library Observatory Night

Join us for a night of learning and exploration with a lecture at L.E. Shore Memorial Library, Astronomy – The Art, followed by a trip to the Carr Observatory to view the planets, galaxies and stars.
