In the summer months of July and August, the Centre for Planetary Science & Exploration (CPSX) at Western University offers a Space Science and Technology themed summer camp for children ages 9 to 11.

Modern computer vision technologies have been key to improving our understanding of the Red Planet over the past 15 years. Vision systems are deployed on-orbit (e.g., the HiRISE camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter), on the surface (e.g., the vision sensors on the rovers Spirit, Opportunity, and Curiosity), and have also been used for safe entry, descent, and landing of recent robotic platforms reaching the surface.

The International Astronomical Youth Camp (IAYC) is a three-week-long summer camp in the UK aiming to promote knowledge of astronomy and related sciences in a unique international atmosphere. Sadly, the Star Talk which was originally planned for 7:10-8:00 tonight is cancelled because Professor Jonathan Kelly is sick and cannot make it to the event. HOWEVER, for those who are interested, we will still be holding the telescope observing session from 8:00-9:00pm and we will be meeting in the lobby of McLennan at 8:00pm.

The night begins with an indoor presentation preparing you to immerse yourself in the wonders of the Milky Way and other galaxies. From there, we shuttle you 4 km to the south end of the Leslie Street Spit, where astronomers will share their expertise and telescopic views. What’s better than a night under the stars?

Join two University of Toronto astronomers for an evening of star-gazing. We'll teach you the basics of how to find your way around the night sky, finding constellations, planets, and more. Weather permitting, we'll have our telescope set up on the patio to show you Saturn. This program is appropriate for all ages.
