Speaker's Night: Galactic Evolution: Unveiling the Structure of Galaxies

Speaker: Rajveer Seehra, Astrophysics student, University of Manitoba.

Abstract: This presentation delves into the world of galaxy formation and evolution, focusing sharply on the structures that define these grand celestial objects.

We’ll explore how galaxies evolve from their early stages as protogalactic clouds to the formation of spiral and elliptical galaxies, shedding light on the fundamental secular processes that shape their almost systematic appearances.

We’ll also highlight the roles of interactions, mergers, and the impacts of stellar evolution on the shapes of these distinctive galactic configurations.

By emphasizing the dynamic interplay of many different components, we begin to deeply and fundamentally understand the significance of galactic formation and development.

We finish by examining how the formation of both typical and atypical galaxies contribute to our fundamental understanding of the cosmos, with an elevated look into ultra-diffuse galaxies
