Winter Access at the CAO

Submitted by denisjgrey@gmail.com on 26 January 2026

The Carr Observatory is open this winter on a limited basis as follows:

  • February 13 - February 16
(New Moon February 17th, Family Day weekend)
    Scheduled Supervisor: Chris Vaughan
  • March 20 - March 22
(New Moon March 18th, Messier Marathon option)
    Scheduled Supervisor: Don Stewart

Unlike in past years, the CAO will be accessible by road this winter which will allow members and guests to drive up to the facility. Stargazing in the winter can feature exceptionally clear skies along with winter sights such as the Orion and Rosette Nebulae that are not as easy to see at other times of the year. Snowshoeing and other seasonal activities are available during the day.

As always, these events are weather-dependent and require pre-registration. Accommodation in the house is limited. Please see the CAO booking pages for complete details and we hope to see you there!
