Board Conducts Planning Meeting
The Toronto Centre Board and key volunteers spent the day on Saturday, January 10th talking up the Centre's future and identifying ways that we could improve our services to members and enhance our mandate.
New board members Steven Spinney and Rachel Ward-Maxwell were joined by volunteers including James Luo, Quinton Weyrich, Frank Dempsey and Arnold Brody. Special guest and friend of the Centre Eric Briggs joined the meeting and provided an update on happenings with the National RASC.
Here are some of the key takeaways:
- The Ontario Science Centre is still out there, working remotely and offering science programs on a "pop-up" basis. The Centre and the OSC will be working together to try to find opportunities for us to offer public outreach programs and to host meetings in additional locations.
- Our National Society continues to offer membership and program support services - we will be exploring ways to partner with them in the future.
- More promotion of volunteer opportunities and volunteer recruitment / support were identified as important priorities.
- The Centre website (this site) is in need of a technology refresh which will hopefully be undertaken in 2026.
- More member benefits and programs are needed to enhance the value of membership for our new and returning members
The Centre's last formal planning meeting was held in 2011 - almost 15 years ago. It was generally agreed that we need to conduct these kinds of meetings more frequently.
