Made-in-Canada space technology enables research, grows our economy and benefits society down here on Earth. Since launching Alouette, Canada has made unique and valuable contributions to space technology that have cemented its reputation as a spacefaring nation. Join us as we explore some of the newest projects headed for low Earth orbit, including RadarSat’s next evolution, along with newcomers, GHGSat and Kepler, all outstanding examples of Canadian space innovation.

Panelists

Eric Choi, GHGSat

Eric Choi has worked for over 20 years in the aerospace industry. He is currently director of business development for Canada/U.S. government at GHGSat, a Canadian SME that is deploying satellites and aircraft sensors for the global monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions. He holds a B.A.Sc (Hons) in Engineering Science (Aerospace) and an M.A.Sc in Aerospace Engineering, both from the University of Toronto, and an MBA from York University, and he is an alumnus of the International Space University.


Mina Mitry, Co-founder & CEO, Kepler Communications

Mina is one of Kepler’s co-founders and the company’s CEO. He holds a master’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Toronto, and has experience conceiving and scaling disruptive companies. In 2015 he co-founded Kepler Communications with the ultimate mission of bringing internet connectivity to space. Under his leadership Kepler was named one of the most innovative companies in the world by Fast Company.


Ian McLeod, MDA

Ian McLeod has worked for over 25 years in space and related industries. He is currently the Vice President, International at MDA, Canada’s largest space company. Ian has a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, specializing in Digital Signal Processing, and an MBA from Queen’s University. During his career Ian has worked as a Research Engineer, Systems/Software Engineer, Program Manager, Business Development professional, and as an Executive. His current work focuses on MDA’s expansion into international markets.


Kirsten Vanstone, Space Place Canada

Kirsten is a Space Place Board member and not-for-profit manager specialising in organizations connected with science and STEM. She has more than 18 years’ experience working in museums, planetariums and science centres and is an active volunteer with the RASC. She has a BSc in Astronomy & Physics and is from Toronto, where her first job was working the elevators at the CN Tower.
