UWaterloo: See the unseeable: A black hole discovery conversation with physicist Avery Broderick (LIVESTREAM)

Join us to hear the once-in-a-lifetime story of how Avery Broderick, a professor at University of Waterloo and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, peered thousands of light-years across space helping solve one of the greatest mysteries in the cosmos — that black holes are real.
 
The thrilling discovery comes thanks to an international all-star team of astrophysicists joining together to create a picture-perfect observation of a supermassive black hole located inside the massive elliptical galaxy M87. Located in the constellation of Virgo, this gargantuan object has a mass of six-and-a-half-billion Suns and measures nearly half a light-year across.
 
Learn first-hand from professor Broderick how this revolutionary discovery could expand our understanding of gravity, how galaxies live and die, and even Einstein’s theory of relativity.

Joining him will be Brian McNamara, a professor, Department Chair and University Research Chair in Astrophysics at Waterloo and Bob Lemieux, dean in the Faculty of Science at Waterloo.
