York University: Plutopalooza

The Astronomy Club at York University and the York University Observatory present Toronto's very own Plutopalooza event, an event that is being held in cities across the world!

Plutopalooza is a celebration of New Horizons' arrival at the Pluto system after its nine-year journey across the solar system. It will bring together astronomy and space exploration enthusiasts to share together their excitement for the spacecraft's arrival at this distant world.

At Plutopalooza at York University, you will learn intriguing new things about Pluto, hear and discuss some of the questions that have been puzzling scientists throughout the mission, and learn about the scientific objectives planned for the New Horizons spacecraft during its closest approach to Pluto. You will also be entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of seven valuable prizes, including Starry Night Pro 7, Starry Night Enthusiast 7, and Sky Safari Plus! After all the fun, you will get a tour of the night sky via the York Observatory's telescope!

In order to offset the costs of holding the event, there will be a nominal cover fee of $5 at the door. The cover fee entitles you to great food, beverages, and a chance to win one of seven prizes! These prizes are of great value both in terms of price as well as in terms of astronomical education.

The Astronomy Club would like to thank the York U Faculty of Science for sponsoring this event, and Simulation Curriculum Corp for helping us bring you these wonderful prizes!

Join Toronto's Plutopalooza celebration and share in the excitement of the arrival of New Horizons at the Pluto system, an event that will make history, bringing us our first ever up-close introduction to this distant world.

Bring your friends, and share the event! It is open to everyone in Toronto and beyond.
