Prof. David Nobes of the Department of Geophysics at the East China University of Technology led a team of scientists to Antarctica to study Polygonal Patterned Ground in the McMurdo Dry Valley. As he points out, the significance of polygonal patterns in Antarctica is that they also were found on Mars. Finding out more about how these geophysical patterns were formed on earth can give us an understanding of why these patterns appear on Mars. Professor Nobes presented his talk for the Recreational Astronomy Night meeting, Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (Toronto Centre), on August 9th, 2017 at the Ontario Science Centre.
