Video: Illuminating the Dark Universe with Things That Go Bang in the Night

Dr. Renée Hložek, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics at the University of Toronto, gave a presentation on why supernovae are important in learning how the universe is accelerating. She went on to explain the importance of the new Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) of the Vera Rubin Observatory that will be coming online in a few years and how it will allow astronomers to observe many facets of the universe and potentially detect a supernova every few minutes with possibly over 10 million alerts each evening. She gave this presentation at the Speaker's Night on November 27, 2019 organised by the RASC, Toronto Centre at the Ontario Science Centre.
