Galactic Christmas Tree

Located about 2600 light years away in the constellation Monoceros, the Cone Nebula at the bottom points to the upsidedown tree in the bright, twinking Christmas Tree cluster.

NGC 2264 (Christmas Tree cluster) (Cone Nebula Region) with 2.5 hours of Lum added in Feb 2014. Total now 12 hours of LRGB and Ha.
Original data was HaRGB. 9.5 hours of exposure with TEC 140 at f5.6 and FLI ML8300 camera. Taken by Lynn Hilborn, WhistleStop Obs, Grafton, Ontario. Imaged on Feb 19 and 20, 2012)
