Whitby/DRAA: Earth Hour Stargazing Party
The Town of Whitby has been participating in the world-wide Earth Hour event since 2008. Residents and businesses are encouraged to turn off their lights, power down and unplug any unnecessary electronic equipment from 8:30pm to 9:30pm on Saturday, March 19, 2016.
While the lights are out, take advantage of the darkened skies during Earth Hour and join Town of Whitby staff and the Durham Region Astronomical Association (DRAA) at a Free Stargazing Party at the Port Whitby Marina. See the moon, planets and the stars from telescopes from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. Join us inside the Marina Clubhouse for displays and activities. Snacks and refreshments will also be available.
Earth Hour was first launched in Sydney, Australia in 2007. It is a global campaign that promotes energy conservation and awareness of climate change. For one hour a year, communities around the world turn off all lights and electronics.
