TIFA: Travelling to the Stars: Les Johnson & Dr. Dave Williams

Is the human body built for Mars? Will interstellar travel ever be possible? What can studies on Earth and in space tell us about planetary exploration? Prolific physicist Les Johnson and astronaut Dr. Dave Williams are here to answer all of your burning questions about space travel, and the daunting challenges – both human and technological – that we will need to overcome to reach the next frontier. Johnson’s A Traveler’s Guide to the Stars is just what the title suggests: a thrilling tour of the physics and technologies that may enable us to reach the stars, from the latest exoplanet discoveries to exciting new developments in space propulsion, robotics, communications and much more. Williams’ fascinating book Why Am I Taller?: What Happens to an Astronaut’s Body in Space, co-written with Ph.D. Elizabeth Howell, focuses on how trips to space may affect the human body, from cognition and DNA expression to studies on how the human body will behave in “partial gravity.” Strap in – this event is your passport to the stars!
