Speakers:

Prof. Paul Delaney

Prof. Paul Delaney was the previous director of the Allan I. Carswell Observatory at York University. He began his career at York in 1986 and over the next three decades he became the public face of astronomy at York, teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and helping spread a love for astronomy to the public – including thousands of elementary students.

He led the Cepheid variable star research program at the observatory for many years, resulting in many undergraduate students’ first publications.

He saw the observatory through many changes over the years - most recently the upgrade to the 1-m telescope, won numerous teaching awards, and was the inaugural Allan I. Carswell Chair for the Public Understanding of Astronomy.
