Hamilton Amateur Astronomers: Astronomy 101 and your Guide to Note-taking
Following up Jim Wamsley’s introduction to telescopes in Part 1, John Gauvreau now guides you through what a beginner can expect from their very first views through that scope. From planets to galaxies, small scopes and large, find out what you can really see out under the night sky and how best to see it. Bernie Venasse will then speak about note-taking: why should I bother? and what do I record?
Our speakers this evening will be John Gauvreau & Bernie Venasse
John Gauvreau was the astronomy instructor at Mohawk College for 20 years and has spoken at a wide variety of venues, including schools, libraries, conservation areas, churches, the McMaster University planetarium and the Ontario Science Centre. He created Galileo’s Classroom, an in-school interactive program aimed at the grade 6 space science unit, and currently volunteers for the Hamilton Amateur Astronomers and others. Most recently he has joined the faculty at Conestoga College to teach astronomy.
Bernie Venasse is the HAA’s Chairman and has been an active astronomer since the days of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo. He is an active member of the British Astronomical Association, The International Dark Sky Association, the Astronomical League and Astronomers without Borders.

Donations of non-perishable food for the Hamilton Food Share program will be collected at this meeting. Please drop off any items at the drop-box located near the entrance of the auditorium. All donations gratefully accepted and thanks to your generosity we’ve collected thousands of pounds of food since we began. Let’s keep up the great work as the need continues.
