National Volunteer Week

Submitted by hotair@compute… on 21 April 2021

The period of 18 to 24 April 2021 is National Volunteer Week. RASC Toronto Centre is supported by a great number of generous and helpful volunteers.

Volunteer Canada has set a theme for 2021: The Value of One, The Power of Many. They are recognising the “awe-inspiring acts of kindness by millions of individuals and the magic that happens when we work together towards a common purpose.”

See their web site for more information.

This is an appropriate theme when we reflect on all the volunteer effort made to operate the RASC Toronto Centre for its 500+ members, to keep the lights on, and to fulfil our mission to educate the public and promote science and astronomy.

In times not impacted by a worldwide pandemic, we benefited from the support of over 130 people all over the Greater Toronto Area. Over the last year, a lot of members continue to actively maintain our charity organisation.

The Volunteer Coordination committee celebrates all the visible and behind-the-scenes work by the executive, the council, the many committee chairs, our various working groups, and the dozen of other volunteers. We are grateful for their devotion, dedication, and support, particularly in these difficult times.

Members who would like to help, please see our volunteer page.

We also recognise the volunteers across the country in different disciplines and fields. Thank you!
