RASC Mississauga: Transit of Mercury at the Riverwood Conservancy

Come out and observe a rare event - a transit of Mercury. Join members of the Mississauga Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada as they set up telescopes equipped with special filters to provide a safe view of the transit. The transit takes approximately 7.5 hours for the planet Mercury to cross the Sun. It will begin just after 7:15am EDT and will end at 2:40pm EDT. Maximum transit will occur just before 11am EDT.

UofT Planetarium: The Birth and Death of Stars

Showtimes: 7:00pm, 8:00pm, and 9:00pm The stars in the night sky seem unchanging and eternal, and have remained the same for the history of human civilization. However, over millions and billions of years, new stars are born, live out their long lives, and eventually die in a blaze of glory. York University: Mercury Transit

Join the York University Astronomical Observatory and the Astronomy Club at York University for the transit of Mercury! Observatory telescopes will be in place at the Lion Stadium to guide spectators through the event! Transit starts at 7:10am and will end at 2:44pm. We will be hosting this event from 9:00am - 2:00pm. There will be solar glasses for everyone! See you there!

UofT AstroTour: Doing the Impossible: The Case for Investing in Space Exploration

Between 1969 and 1972, 12 men traveled over one million kilometers to walk on the surface of the Moon. Today, we couldn’t go back—over the last 40 years, astronauts have not ventured beyond a thin shell surrounding our planet. How is this possible? I will make a case for dreaming big and investing in space exploration, even in the face of our pressing problems closer to home.

This April 23rd the Hamilton Amateur Astronomers will be holding their public scope clinic and open house. Telescopes of all types will be set up, amateur astronomers will be available to answer questions, talk about equipment, observing and anything astronomy-related. The scope clinic is a great way to get introduced to astronomy, where to start, and learn about the hobby. Bring your family and friends!
