Solar System Social #7

Solar System Social is a space-themed speaker series that brings exciting ideas and research from the field of planetary science to the general public in the form of short, informative, and interesting talks that last about 20 minutes each.

This event features:

Astrophysicist Dr. Matt Russo who will present "The Music of the Spheres (Now For Human Ears!)" From a supergroup of exoplanets to the night sky's brightest hip-hop stars, Matt will explore the deep connection between music and astronomy and how it can be used to bring the wonders of the universe to a wider audience.

Kristen Cote will give a talk titled "The ExAlta-1 Cube Satellite and the QB50 Mission." She was the Mechanical Team Co-Lead of the AlbertaSat group who designed, built, and launched a cubesat earlier this year. She continues to monitor the satellite from the York University ground station. You can catch Kristen on the York Universe radio show on astronomy.fm Mondays at 9pm.

Comedian Joel Buxton (https://www.secondcity.com/people/toronto/joel-buxton/) will deliver a set of space-themed comedy and host David Hamilton will deliver a short talk about the search for life on Mars.

Following each talk, audience members will have the chance to ask questions, with speakers encouraged to frame their answers toward fostering public understanding of and engagement with space science and exploration.
