Solar System Social is a space-themed speaker series that brings exciting ideas and research from the field of planetary science to the general public in form of short, informative, and interesting talks that last about 20 minutes each. This event features Dr. Jesse Rogerson, who will share "Saturn, its rings, and its moons," Dr. Christina L. Smith will share her talk "Prickly Pluto: a dwarf planet with icy blades," and Beth Lymer, will share “Meteorites, asteroids and the beginning of life.” Following each talk, audience members will have the chance to ask questions, with speakers encouraged to frame their answers toward fostering public understanding of and engagement with space science and exploration.

Dr. Jesse Rogerson is an avid science communicator for astronomy and space sciences. It is a passion he developed while completing his graduate degree in astrophysics at York University. Currently, Jesse is the Science Advisor at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum.

Beth Lymer is in the final stages of completing her masters in Earth and Space science at York University under the supervision of Dr. Michael Daly (OSIRIS-REx, DEXTRE, Phoenix Lander). As an advocate for STEM education, this September Beth will be pursuing a Masters in Museum studies at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Christina L. Smith is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. John E. Moores’ group and a trainee in the Technologies for Exo-Planetary Science group. She completed her PhD in Astrophysics from the Jodrell Bank Observatory located at the University of Manchester, UK. In her short career, she has already published 8 papers in respected journals. She has also been certified as an Environmental Science Lead and Keeper of the Plan (ESTLK) for Mars Science Laboratory, commonly known as the Curiosity Rover.
