Pint of Science: We are stardust

Have you ever looked up at the starry sky and felt small and insignificant compared to the vastness of the cosmos? Join Dr. Alan Chen, Professor, and PhD candidate Johnson Liang, of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at McMaster University, for a memorable trip from the tiny atom to the vast cosmos.

“In heaven and earth:” Our cosmic heritage from the stars

“How do stars shine?” “Where do the elements around us – and inside us – come from?” Amazingly, the origins of starlight, and of the oxygen we breathe and the calcium in our bones, are two sides of the same coin. We will explore some highlights of this surprising and deep connection, culled from theory, observations, and experiments – from textbook knowledge that still engenders marvel, to frontier knowledge for writing the textbooks of tomorrow.
