Chamber Music Society of Mississauga: Our Night Sky

The Chamber Music Society of Mississauga (CMSM) presents “Our Night Sky,” on Saturday, September 10 at 11am at Erin Mills Town Centre in Mississauga. “Our Night Sky” is a new show for young audiences of all ages created and performed by CMSM. This is a free admission performance.

Inspired by the night sky above us all, “Our Night Sky” is a 50-minute show of storytelling and music. This is the 9th production of young audience shows created and produced by the Chamber Music Society of Mississauga. In “Our Night Sky,” the narrator, who falls asleep under the night sky at her grandmother’s farm, tells the story of a young girl exploring the night sky in her dreams as she remembers the stories from all over the world, that her grandmother told her. A CMSM chamber ensemble accompanies this story. “Our Night Sky” is also a new adventure for CMSM musicians who usually play acoustically but for this show will be experimenting with electronic instruments, improvisation and special sound effects using a synthesizer. The musical score has been created by Mississauga composer, Michael Coghlan and the story that it accompanies has been created by a collaborative team of CMSM’s Artistic Director, Peggy Hills, working with Randy Attwood of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Angela Fusco, actor, Trish O’Reilly, actor and the performing musicians listed below.

Performing on September 10, will be Ben Bolt Martin, cello; Peggy Hills, violin; Kim Norris, Chinese and western flute; Richard Moore, percussion; Sharlene Wallace, harp; Barbara Croall, First Nations cedar flute; Subhadra Vijaykumar, carnatic violin; Eileen Keown, piano; Michael Coghlan, synthesizer; and Denis Mastromonaco, conductor.

CMSM is proud to introduce the narrators for “Our Night Sky,” 14-year-old Camille Labonté, singer, actor, guitarist, flute player and pianist, a member of the Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra and former member of the Toronto Children’s Chorus and the Mississauga Children’s Choir and 16 year old Elise Mariah, singer/songwriter and winner of the Grand Prize and the Fan’s Choices awards from The Mississauga Art Council’s annual Singfest competition.
